What Causes Sudden Spinning Sensation And Light Headedness?

I have experienced about two instances in the past year (most recently this morning) of being woken up by a sudden spinning sensation which has passed quite quickly when I sat up in bed. However, the sensation has left me feeling a bit fuzzy and light headed. I am a 64 year old male in good health. Any ideas please?

Neurologist 's  Response
Good morning. My name is Dr. Saghafi and I'm a neurologist in the Cleveland, OH region of the world. Greetings wherever you're living.

Sudden onset of vertigo while in bed is most often caused by an entity called PAROXYSMAL BENIGN POSITIONAL VERTIGO: BPPV for short and it is not dangerous but very annoying. It can be treated with simple maneuvers and is very common in anybody over the age of 55-60. It also happens in the younger population but is more common as we age. A neurologist would be best suited to either treat you for make the definitive diagnosis for you.

I'd be happy to answer more detailed questions for you on this topic if you write to me at:
