Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Stabbing Pelvic Pain, Tingling Sensation Throughout Body And Numbness?
I had an IV iron infusion 6 weeks ago. I initially had muscle aching, then after 3 weeks I had a sudden stabbing pain in the pelvis, followed by sacral pain, difficulty walking, extreme weakness and numbness, tingling and strange sensations all over. The pain subsided after 2 weeks. But the neurological symptoms and weakness persisted. After testing with MRI, EMG and Lumbar puncture, the major neurological have been ruled out. We believe the condition is a reaction to the IV iron. Has anyone else reported these symptoms? Just wondering how long the weakness will last and what I can do to help myself?
Lab tests can help like: a. Serum iron [samples taken after 4 hrs post ingestion] b. Ferritin levels c. Glucose d. Electrolyte, LFT, RFT
Once these tests suggest chronic iron overload, then according to me, go to treatment as neurological component is ruled out according to your history. In general, do some sukshm yoga / breathing meditation [art of living ombw course] and craniosacral therapy, they are very helpful, with no side effects.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
