What Causes Sudden Swelling In Feet,ankles And Legs?

My brother has had a sudden swelling of his lower extremities, feet, ankles, and legs. He is 66 years old and very overweight and doesn t move much due to knee and back issues. What would be the most critical things that might cause this. He is a disabled vet and I am trying to talk him into seeing his doctor at the VA medical center immediately; however, he is always reluctant to do so.

Although sedentary lifestyle itself is a critical reason of this problem, high blood pressure, infections, certain medications e.g amlodipine, certain diseases of the kidneys and heart are other reasons for swelling extremities.


Until unless I do a complete physical examination and assessment of the cause, I am unable to rule out your brother's secific cause of leg swellings. For this reason I preferably suggest you to take him to a physician clinic and get complete evaluation and proper treatment according to the cause.
