What Causes Sudden Swelling In Lips And Chin?

For no reason that I can figure, my lip and chin suddenly swell up so that it looks like someone hit me. AS fast as it comes, it goes away within 2 days usually. It is not a food allergy because it happens in a different situation every time. I have noticed it starts swelling when i am in bed sometimes, but not every time. There is no common denominator.
Thank You, Alan

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have got an allergic reaction to some unknown allergen and sudden swelling of lip and chin seems to be most commonly due to allergic reaction only..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise you allergic tests like prick test, patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc to rule out the exact cause of the reaction and treat you accordingly..

You can be advised to take a course of anti-allergics like Allegra or benadryl to resolve the swelling..
Do cool compresses over the lip and chin..
Once the cause of allergic reaction is ruled out avoiding exposure to the allergen can help in preventing allergy symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
