Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why do I get sudden weakness and pain in my hand. Difficult to pick up items. Usually only lasts a few hours. Usually my right hand. The larger bone that is on the outside of my wrist seems swollen when that happens. It happens out of the blue. Thank you.
You are having pain and sudden weakness in the right hand. The symptom may be indicative of nerve weakness, neuropathy. If diabetic keep your blood sugar level at control. You are also experiencing pain and swollen wrist, Wrist pain is often caused by sprains or fractures from sudden injuries.
Repetitive stress, arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome could be long-term problems that may be causing the pain in the wrist. Wrist pain may vary, depending on the cause. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get X-ray and CT / MRI done.
You can also take NSAIDS like Naproxen, one stat when needed. If there is a fracture or dislocation, it will be treated accordingly. You can apply ointment Combiflam on the affected area. You can also apply Volini spray on the area affected. It will give relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
