Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sudden Weight Gain When TSH Level Indicates 8.4?
I had a hemithyroidectomy in 1/15. Initially, my TSH and T4 were normal after surgery and six months later. I recently had levels drawn. My T4 is 1.0 but my TSH is 8.4. We did not draw a T3. I also have had a 10-15 lb weight gain over the last year which is unusual for me. I am wondering if I need supplementation?
Your symptoms seem to be related to hypothyroidism based on the reports. I suggest take a daily use of the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine. You can consult an endocrinologist for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
