Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I am 19 years old. I have always been on the small side. Over the years I gained a little and recently alot of people have been telling me I lost weight. I don t know what else to do. I may have an overactive thyroid gland...I don t know, but what can I do to gain weight?
If you suspect that you have an overactive thyroid then this should be assessed by blood tests to check thyroid function.
If you do have high levels of thyroid hormone, this would need to be treated as soon as possible. High thyroid hormone levels cause weight loss.
If this is the problem and it is corrected then you would gain weight.
If this is not the issue and there is no medical reason for your weight then weight gain can be achieved by using foods high in calories , increasing portion food sizes and increasing the frequency of your meals ( using snacks between main meals).
I hope this helps
