What Causes Suffocation During Nights While Sleeping?

Why do I sophogate sometimes? I suffered such today midnight while I was asleep. Such occurred today, almost after 7-8 months. Though such used to occur frequently, i.e probably once in a month before. When such occurs I am cant breath, I can't speak, I can't swallow. The situation becomes so dangerous that my wife panics, fears and I felt so very hard to return to normal.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have suffocation during nights while sleeping . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to obstructive sleep apnea . I would suggest you to consult general practitoner for proper examination . Doctor may order sleep study and refer you to specialist to confirm the diagnosis and rule out any respiratory and heart problem . Doctor may recommend cpap machine . I would also suggest you to loss your weight and quit smoking habit if you have .
