What Causes Sulfurous Rotten Egg Taste While Coughing?
A couple days ago, I had noticed that when I was coughing pretty bad there was an awful sulfurous rotten egg taste when I was coughing. I have never had this happen before. I am currently on toridol, cyclobenzaprine and codeine for back problems. I was into the docs 2 days ago and inquired about it. He didn't seem too concerned and said it may be a side effect from the meds. I've been on these meds before and not had this issue. Every time I have a good cough it tastes disgusting. Yes I do have a little pain in my left chest from coughing. And yes there has been a brown phlegm come up. Yes I am a smoker. Any insight to this would be much appreciated
The bad taste you feel while coughing could be a side effect of using toradol (ketorolac). Usually, gastric problems are being aggravated while on such treatment.
I suggest to discuss with your doctor to start PPI therapy (omeprazole/esomeprazole) to reduce the symptoms.
Infection of upper respiratory tract should be also excluded by physical examination and chest X-ray. Antibiotic treatment should be necessary.
I advise to: - drink plenty of water - take the medications with a glass full of water - keep a good hygiene of throat/mouth - do throat gargle with water and salt.
