What Causes Swallowing Difficulty?

My husband has been having trouble swallowing and not able to eat right now.....he thinks it is acid reflex, but has never had it this bad. He coughs to try to bring it up. I had him breath in some peppermint oil, said that did not help him. Anything I can give to him?

Hi,

As per your complain you have problem of swallowing difficulty that may be because of gastroesophageal reflux disease lead to ulcer in esophagus. Esophagitis or other lesion cause difficulty in swallowing. Laryngoscopy examination helpful for diagnosis. Manometry to check pressure in oesophagus during swallowing. Barium swallow can done if needed.

Start a treatment according to the cause. Detail history and investigation give exact idea about problems. Consult a physician for further diagnosis.
