What Causes Sweating, Dizziness And Slurred Speech?

I have an employee who just called me to say she didn t think she could be into work tomorrow. She is in her early 60s. She sounded tired, slow ,somewhat slurred speech, said she was sweating, dizzy and vomiting. I am a long distance from her and she didn t really want anyone to come check on her. I am concerned for her. Trying to contact a friend of hers to go check on her. Can you possibly help me with what this may be? I would like to relay it to her friend if possible.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There can be many reasons for symptoms (that you have mentioned in your query) like middle ear infection, labyrinthitis, anxiety disorder, iron deficiency, diabetes-type 2, sinusitis and sometimes cardiac problem can also give such signs.

Sometimes, infection reaches the larynx when left untreated and causes laryngitis. I would suggest you to consult an ENT specialist to rule out ear problem and sinusitis.

Doctor will examine ear with otoscope and order CT scan for sinusitis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like genatmicin or amoxicillin, decongestant or expectorant.

Do warm saline gargles and avoid cold beverages. Doctor may also refer you to a cardiologist for cardiac problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
