What Causes Swelling And Abscesses Under The Skin After Swimming?
my son just got a tattoo recently and he went in the lake swimming. Well his arm has swelled up and it is red and hot and there are two abscesses under the skin. He went to the e.r. and the doctor said it wasn t contagious and he didn t have staff. He gave him two different types of antibiotics to take and that has been two days ago. His arm is hurting him and the abscess has grown larger and it is so hard all around the abscess and one abcess started oozing greenish colored puss and he says he feels drained from the hurting. I am worried he may have that flesh eating bacteria because of the tattoo and then going swimming in the lake, and the E.R. doctor did not do any blood work or samples of the abscess. i think he needs to go back to the e.r. what do you think?I am really concerned because flesh eating bacteria can take your life or limbs.
Hi. As per your case history you may be having simple bacterial abscess. My treatment advice is - 1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it. 3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for 5-7 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin and linezolid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
