What Causes Swelling And Bleeding From Gums While On Amoxicillin For Fever?
My son is 3, 5 days ago had a fever and ached all over. Following day a sore throat, he is prone to throat infections so took him to doctors and was prescribed omoxicillin. Straight after (perhaps before I hadn't noticed) his gums have swollen and are bleeding, he can't eat much at all. I don't know whether to continue with anti biotics or to stop. He has never had problem with gums before. I had a coldsore recently perhaps he had caught a virus from that?< Thanks.

As per your complain it seems that swelling and bleeding from the gums while having fever and body aches that your son has caught from you. As you had a cold sore then there is a possibility that he is suffering from Herpetic Gingivostomatitis and it can lead to swelling and sores on gums and mouth along with fever and cold like symptoms. Another cause for swollen gums can be due to allergic reaction to the antibiotic which is advised to him.
So I would suggest you to consult a Pediatrician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like oral swab culture and blood tests can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. In case of viral infection anti-viral medications like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir while a combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen can be given to reduce fever and pain. Gargle with numbing mouthwash like Lignocaine to relieve pain on gums. Do cool compresses to reduce inflammation, swelling and bleeding. Give him a bland diet and more of fluids. In case of allergic reaction changing the antibiotics and also taking anti-allergics like Benadryl can help.
