What Causes Swelling And Bruise On Leg After Injury?

Hello, my name is Cassondra. I m 39 years old. In good shape. I was in an accident, I slammed into a pick up while riding my motor Scooter. on the 19th of July. My leg, (shin) impactrd the bumper. I had to moderate swelling and no bruising at the time of the accident but went away about a week after the accident. However in the last week and a half, a large bump has formed and is now forming a bruise a few inches below. I am assuming that it is a large hematoma. What are some indicators or warning signs I should be aware of in case it s more serious.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a hematoma post injury. I suggest using cold compresses for local application. I also recommend using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the swelling.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
