Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to the dentist Wednesday, she numbed me and hit a nerve, ever since, my cheek is swollen and a little bruised and that side of my mouth is still tender, should this be going away soon? I called the doctor on Thursday she told me to put ice on it and take ibuprofen
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain in case if the injection was given for upper back teeth then it seems to have been given deep into the venous plexus that is a bunch of veins and it has lead to Hematoma formation And it is appearing as bruising and swelling.. Pain is due to hitting of nerves.. The swelling will gradually go away but can take a few days to resolve.. The treatment advised to you that is cool compresses or icing and taking Anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen is appropriate and it is all you can do right now to resolve the swelling.. But in case if swelling and pain worsen you need to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation and treatment can be planned accordingly..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
