What Causes Swelling And Bruising On Big Toe Post Injury?

My son jammed his big toe 2 weeks ago and has been experiencing swelling and some bruising. He is able to wiggle his toes, but is concerned that it is taking too long to heal. Is it possible that anything could be broken and or is it normal for a jammed toe to take this long to heal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Swelling and bruising could be a sign of fracture and will most certainly require a more elaborate evaluation that includes a physical examination (local status) and an x-ray of the affected foot.

Please visit an orthopedician or traumatologist for further evaluation.

Best wishes.
