What Causes Swelling And Fluid Retention In Feet While On Gabapentin And Tegretol?

I am currently taking gabapentin, tegretol, baclyfin to control neurolgic pain in my left foot caused (probably) by lesions in my cervical and thorasic spine (MS lesions). I have gained 25 lbs in the past year, some from reduced activity. But I have recently experienced a great deal of swelling and fluid retention in my feet, enough that when I press my finger into the swollen areas it leaves a deep and lasting impression. What might this be and what can I do until I can see my doctor? thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Tegretol is a medication with Carbamazepine content used to control various seizure disorders. There are plenty of side effects of the Tegretol as:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- GI upset
- Blurred vision
- Change in color of urine
- Ulcer mouth
- Swelling feet, ankles
- Others

The case narration of fluid retention over feet is obvious side effect of the Tegretol. Kindly stop further dose intake of the Tegretol and report to your doc office.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
