What Causes Swelling And Inflammation In Hands?

Hi, my hands are very swollen. I cannot even fit my rings on them. my hands would swell up every now and then but for the last month it has been very bad. They go numb a few times a day. And they used to burn and be painful at night, but now the pain is constant. My wrists are very weak too. What could this be?

Hi

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
Age, gender, duration of symptoms not mentioned.
I appreciate your concern for the painful swellings in the hands.

After going through your problems I am of the opinion that you have some sort of inflammatory conditions of the joints (arthritis) involving your hands.

Had you been my patient, I would have advised the following investigations to draw a conclusion about the causes of the arthritis;
CBC, ESR, Rh factor, ASO titre, C Reactive protein, Serum uric acid, Urine analysis, and the x rays of the hands.
A consultation with a rheumatologist is recommended.

Meanwhile you may take NSAID pain killers like Ibuprofen along with PPI for the symptomatic relief of pain and swellings.

Hope this information could be useful to you in getting the treatment.

Wishing you good health.
