What Causes Swelling And Itching On Toes?

I have been having swelling and extreme itching in my fourth toe on my foot, on and off for months. I ve had athlete s foot fairly regularly since high school (more than 10 years ago), and this doesn t feel like any athletes foot I have ever had. It s only my 4th toe. It s very red and swollen. I looked up Gout and Reynaud s Disease and it doesn t seem like those diseases are likely the cause. Any ideas? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Swelling and itchy toes can be caused by a combination of cold weather and poor circulation.
I suggest using a mild steroid cream for local application.
I also suggest to keep the skin warm and dry.
Clean skin with an antiseptic to reduce the risk of infection and do not scratch it.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
