What Causes Swelling And Itching Sensation In Ankles?
Hello. My daughter who is 8 years old has been complaining of her ankles/heels itching for three days.I thought it was just a reaction to laundry soap. This evening I took off her socks to take a look at her feet and both of her ankles are swollen. A bit alarming. What could this be?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling and itching sensation in ankles. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like xerotic eczema , senile pruritis , atopic dermatitis , contact dermatitis or gout . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to rashes , keep it clean and dry , apply petroleum jelly on it and take antihistamine like benadryl twice a day. If condition doesn't get well then consult pediatrician for proper examination . Doctor may order certain test like skin patch test or allergy test . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants , anti inflammatory or corticosteroid ointment . Avoid trigger factor , which starts swelling and itching .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
