What Causes Swelling And Numbness In The Left Knee While On Warfarin?

I am on Warfarin (4 mg daily) to ease the pressure on my heart. However, on two occasions recently, about 6 weeks apart, my left knee seized up and immobilized me for several days. Even a fortnight later, I still have to use a walking stick. My GP suggests that blood has got into my kneecap and caused the seizure. Is this a reasonable diagnosis, and if so, what should be done to prevent further seizurs of this kind?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be knee joint effusion or blood collection in the joint cavity. Consult an orthopedic and get evaluated. An ultrasound knee is required to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
