What Causes Swelling And Pain Below The Right Elbow After A Wasp Sting?

I was Stung by a wasp two days ago below my right elbow and the swelling and the itch is worse. The Itch just won t quit. It also feels warm. But the weakness, throbbing/shooting pain, numb like feeling, (as if my arm is about to fall asleep), and pain when I use my arm, (like deep muscle ache, even when I use my fingers), is starting to worry me. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It looks like the wasp bite has spread infection and affected your lymph nodes. Wash the affected area with plain water & then with vinegar. Remove any stings left on your skin.

The discomfort may increase in the first 48 hours & start subsiding slowly. It gets well in 3 days but if the bite is severe it may take a week (7 days) to subside.

In the meantime take non-sedating antihistamines, acetaminophen for relieve. If the bite is severe, you may need epinephrine to calm your immune system.

Topically apply hydrocortisone ointment, calamine lotion or soframycin ointment for relieve.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
