What Causes Swelling And Pain In Arms During Nights?

My sister is 52 years old and has started to have swelling in her hands and soreness in her arms and all over beginning at night. She said that hurts so much at night that hurts to remove the blanket if she is too hot. She has been taking ibuprhenen (sp?) and decided to stop in last three days. Her swelling in hands and soreness in body goes away by about 11 am in the day. It comes on during night. I told her that sounds like allergy. Has dr appt on 2/10/16. What do you think?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling and pain in arms during nights. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like bursitis, tendinitis , rotator cuff problems , carpal tunnel syndrome , allergy or gout . I would suggest you to give your arm proper rest , apply warm compresses to it , stop using ant cosmetic product or take over the counter anti histamine like benadryl . Consult orthopedic surgeon if condition doesn't get well . Doctor may order certain test like blood test , urine test along with , physical examination . Doctor may prescribe allopurinol, anti inflammatory , muscle relaxant , recommend physical therapy . Doctor may also refer you to allergy specialist .
