What Causes Swelling And Pain In Breast After Taking Antibiotics For Chest Infection?
Hi I have been on 3 different antibiotics the past three weeks trying to clear up a lung and chest infection. I took my period 2 weeks ago but instead of it lasting 5/6 days as is normal for me, it only lasted 2 days which has never happened before. My breasts are also very swollen and painful. I know I m not pregnant as I m on the contraceptive pill but just want to know if antibiotics can have this effect or could there be something else wrong with me? Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Antibiotic course is not probably the cause of short menstrual cycles or breast tenderness. Breast tenderness is commonly seen under the effect of progesterones. Observe your menstrual cycles for few months. If the menstrual cycles remain irregular constantly then you need to consult your gynaecologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigations. Hormonal imbalance is the most probable cause of menstrual irregularities.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
