Hi, my boyfriend hurt his hand while boxing at the end of January. The pain has gone to his wrists, he can t lift heavy stuff since then. Today, his forearm started to hurt as well, and his muscle on his forearm is swolen and has a spongy feeling to the touch. What could be the cause? He s complaining a lot about pain.

Hi,

The symptoms you describe suggest that your boyfriend may have sustained an injury to the muscles, tendons, or ligaments in his hand, wrist, or forearm. This can be caused by overuse, trauma, or repetitive strain injury. Common injuries that could cause these symptoms to include:
1. Sprains and strains: These injuries can occur when the ligaments or tendons in the forearm or wrist are stretched or torn.
2. Fractures: A fracture or break in one of the bones in the forearm or wrist can cause swelling, pain, and difficulty moving the affected area.
3. Carpal tunnel syndrome: This occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm to the hand, becomes compressed as it passes through the wrist.
4. Tendinitis: This is inflammation or irritation of a tendon in the forearm, wrist, or hand.

Your boyfriend needs to rest the affected area and avoid activities that aggravate the symptoms. Applying ice to the area can help reduce swelling and pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen could help alleviate pain. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to seek medical attention from a healthcare provider. They may recommend imaging tests or refer your boyfriend to a specialist for further evaluation or treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Swelling and pain in the forearm and wrist could be due to a variety of factors, including a muscle strain, ligament sprain, or even a fracture. Given that your boyfriend hurt his hand while boxing and has been experiencing pain and limited mobility since then, it is possible that he sustained an injury to his wrist or forearm.

It is important to seek medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause of his symptoms and receive appropriate treatment. Your healthcare provider may recommend imaging studies such as an X-ray or MRI to evaluate the extent of the injury and determine the best course of treatment.

In the meantime, your boyfriend should avoid any activities that exacerbate the pain and swelling, rest the affected area, and apply ice to reduce inflammation. OTC pain relievers such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen may help alleviate pain and discomfort.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
