What Causes Swelling And Pain In Heel?

I recently had a swollen heel which was painful which I sought treatment. I am physically active about 5 times per week. The doctor said it was a result of not stretching before and after running. I know there was some calcification on the xray. Also, she stated on a scale from 1 to 10 mine was a 6 or 7, but could be improved with physical therapy, strecthing, ultra sound. She said I had a loss of Something? Do you know what she was referring to?

As per your complain pain in heel can be due to causes like Planter Fascitis, Achilles Tendonitis, Heel spurs, Arthritis,Haglund's Deformity, Tarsal tunnel syndrome, brusitis etc..

I would suggest you to consult a Podiatrist or an Orthopedician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRI scan, Fluoroscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

You can be advised to take medications like anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen or Naproxen, muscle relaxants, orthotics to support the feet and put inside shoes..
You can also be advised Physiotherapy and also wear proper fitting shoes..
Warm or cool compresses can be advised depending upon the cause..
Heel cups can also be advised..
