Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Last Thursday, I fell out of a Ford pickup truck and my ankle completely twisted. I am currently in a boot. My ankle swells, I have pain in both my ankle and 5th metatarsal on my foot. I also have throbbing in my ankle and foot. Sometimes the pain is a burning sensation. I have the pain both in and out of the boot. My talus bone is really swollen and poking out of my ankle (not through the skin though). Does this sound like a sprain or something worse.
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Yes, this happened probably due to injury when ligamnets or tenonds may have been injured. YOu need to pit elastic compress, ice and rest with painkillers. Less common this may be cellulitis which is inflammation of subcutaneous tissues and may develop into infection with redness or pain in legs. Last, ischemic changes may occur in older age and this happens due to poor circulation in legs.
If there wont be improvement on mentioned therapy you need to do xrays, Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out some more serious issues such as obstructive changes of vessels.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time
