What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Back After An Injury?

Hi. I was hurt last Friday on a water slide at my grandsons b-day party. I slid into my much larger brother & his knee hit me in my left side of my back causing pain not only in my back but in my front internally. There is no external bruising yet, but my back is swollen on my left & pain is close to unbearable.

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due strain of back muscles. You can do ice pack application for initial 2 days. Applying gels containing NSAIDs like ketoprofen or diclofenac ( Volini ) will be helpful also. You can also take oral NSAIDs like ibuprofen ( motrin ) 400 mg twice or thrice daily after food. If there is no improvement or increasing in pain or tiredness or blood in urine you should consult your local doctor. You have to do ultrasound examination to rule out internal injury also in that case.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
