What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Elbows After An Injury?
My 21 year old son is a college baseball player. Involved in a collision last Thursday night tagging a guy. Likely hyper extended elbow. Had minimal swelling, pain in elbow area soft tissue. Had an X-ray Saturday negative for bone issue. Felt much better and hit earlier today, had pain developing again in area. Wants to play in games tonight because he doesn t play again until Monday. Also: Non throwing arm. The Physicians Assistant hat he saw Saturday said likely had to do with MCL. Totally bad idea to play tonight? Is the fact that he was getting much better each day a great sign? YYYY@YYYY
It's hard to say, but based on what you're telling me he at least has a sprain. Sprains may not sound serious, but they can linger for quite a while and keeping giving him problems for the rest of the season. I'd recommend he rest it until he's completely pain free. If he keeps pushing himself, he'll have constant, nagging pain and put himself at risk of having a more significant injury.
I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
