What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Knees After Receiving Intravenous Fluid?
My husband had IV fluids given at a rate of 100ml (per hour maybe) for 5 days while in with double pneumonia. He also has kidney disease and is now experiencing a lot of swelling specially around the knees with pain and feels warm to him. What could be causing this?
It may not be related to fluid therapy. Fluid overload manifest with swelling in the ankle, not in the knee. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
