What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Leg Knee Down?

My husband has a swollen ankle. Two weeks ago, he felt a bad pain in the back of his leg. He said it felt like someone hit him with a rock. He went to work the next day and that evening when he went for a bath, the leg bruised and swollen from his thigh down to his knee. A few days later, it went down to his calf where it was swollen and bruised for a few days, Yesterday, it had spread to his ankle, foot and toes. Its been 2 weeks. He has seen two doctors which told him it was a torn muscle. The symptoms that I have described, are they typical of a torn muscle?

Hi,

Yes, since it was sudden and felt a sharp pain, it most probably is a case of torn muscle. He should rest, keep his leg elevated and should maintain good diet and hydration. Oral painkillers can be used to relieve pain. To Rule out a case of deep vein thrombosis for good, he should just in case get his D-dimers done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
