What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Legs And Ankles?

Hello, My name is Wendy and I have had swollen feet, ankles and legs for several weeks. Also I have tightness and have pain along with the the other symptons. The selling is very is now moving up the leg to the knee and thigh area. It makes is very difficult to walk.

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

Swelling of feet and ankles is very common but if it reaches the knee and above than this is less common and needs medical attention.
What I would recommend is:
1- speak with your doctor as soon as possible
2- have a Doppler ultrasound of both legs to make sure the veins are well and no thrombosis.
3- if the ultrasound is normal than blood tests might be needed like metabolic pannel which includes creatinine also ( kidney function).
4- it would be necessary that the doctor checks your heart also, blood pressure, pulse, etc
5- rarely can happen to have infection in both legs but this would be considered if redness and legs are hot and you have some fever- in this case antibiotics should be started
