Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Toes After An Ankle Injury?
I hurt my ankle and got home from a&e last night. I have crutches and a referral to the fracture clinic next week, also a suspected soft tissue injury to the ankle. However the metatarsals by my big toes and inwards have considerably swelled up and become extremely painful to touch. I can’t move my toes or my foot either, it feels as though there is nothing there (a sort of numbness). My foot is also considerably turned in, but I have tried several times to straighten it out but I physically cannot make it move. It is bent in to the point of looking deformed, but the hospital gave me nothing to protect my foot which is a worry in the corridors at school. I’m worried, what could this be?
Dear sir /madam Since there is a history of injury, I would examine your feet for local bony tenderness, And get a radio graph of feet, most probably it could be soft tissue injury or simple strain.
It is recommended to elevate your limb under pillow, Give rest to the part, Ice fomentation and mild analgesics, And if possible immobisation in slab support to give adequate rest to limb, if not Creepe support to the limb is advisable
Since you have the deformity for a long time, it is advisable to get out of this Acute episode and deal with deformity later.
