What Causes Swelling And Pain In Throat?

My throat is very swollen and painful, but it seems to be in from of my gland, closer to my mouth. The back of my tongue touches it when I move it, it almost even hurts in my ear. But it s very swollen, almost feels like if it gets much more swollen it will be hard to breathe. Will Zyrtec help. I ve taken ibuprofen to take swelling down but it hasn t helped. Should I go to the emergency room, or is there a way to get the swelling down

Hello,
Welcome to HCM.
I have read your history carefully.
You might be suffering from tonsillitis due viral or bacterial infection.
Zyrtec and ibuprofen will be of some help but you also need to start antibiotics like amoxyclav or azithromicine. Tonsils may also need to be removed if they are really enlarged and obstructing breathing.
It is highly recommended to consult a doctor. You should do warm salt water gargle till you get further management.
Hope this will be helpful.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Take care.
