What Causes Swelling And Pain On The Neck Of A Child?

My 11 year old daughter in good health has had cough, sneezing ran a 3-5 day fever last week. She complained of neck pain at times. A few minutes ago she said her neck was bothering her and we noticed fairly large swelling on the right side of her neck. Im so scared I wonder if we should go to the ER. The ped won t be in tomorrow because it s Saturday. She s laying with heating pad on her neck right now. I m scared it could be something serious.

thank you for your question on hcm
from the history which you have provided ,it looks like she has had some infection in the oral cavity or throat(since she's had cough & fever) any infection in this area can cause a lymph node enlargement and this could be the swelling which you have mentioned. in this case she would require antibiotics aftr proper examination. it is nothing to worry about and u can safely start her on tab augmentin 375mg twice a day ,tab paracetamol 250 mg twice a day and of course get her evaluated once u get an appointment with the paed
