What Causes Swelling And Pain Under Breast While Taking Deep Breaths?

I just took a deep breathe in and felt a slight pain under my left breast, under the top rib cage. The area is slightly swollen. I am only feeling the pain when I breathe in. I am 42 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall and my weight is about 130 lbs. and I am a smoker. I may be in a bit of panic right now however I can t even feel my heart beat. Please, kindly advise.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you are having pleuritic chest pain that is the pain association with the lung and its layer that is felt with breathing only.

This can be due to any infection in the lung like pneumonia so I would recommmend you to get Chest Xray done and along with that document your fever. You probably would need antibiotics and antipyretics for the pain to settle properly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
