What Causes Swelling And Pus At The Site Of BCG Vaccination Shot?
Hi, I had the bcg vaccine yesterday and the vaccine site is already swollen and full of pus. I have read reports that this usually happens after a few weeks but nothing about just over 24hrs after vaccination. It this normal or is it infected? Is it a problem if it bursts so soon after the injection as I think this is likely to happen? Thanking you in advance.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain redness, mild bruising and pain at the infection site can be seen commonly after injection for about 3 to 4 days but in case if the area has a pus filled bump it is a clear sign of infection and needs to be treated.. You should consult a general physician and get evaluated and in case of infection he can advise you to take antibiotics and if the lump is large drainage of the pus will help in faster healing.. It will be followed by cleaning the area with antiseptic solution and apply a triple antibiotic ointment.. Keep the area clean..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora.
