What Causes Swelling And Redness Above The Ankle After Hiking?

After hiking I am getting swelling and redness just above boots. It used to go away in a few days, but now there are still signs of it after a week. Skin is not itchy. Swollen area above ankles is tender under pressure. Redness is worse when weather is hot. What should I do to relieve the swelling?

Hi there.

You could be having arthritis of the ankles. This could be a sign of Gout. Other cause could be fluid accumulation due to the walking. Keep your limbs elevated. Remove tight structures around the leg and ankles. Take pain killers for pain. Drink 1-2 litres of water daily.
