Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling And Redness In Hands And Feet After Standing For Long Periods?
My daughter is a sprinter, pole vaulter, and a swimmer. When she walks for long periods of time, stands for over about 10 minutes (i.e: when singing), or when she is running at practice her hands and her feet swell very large. Her hands turn red with white coloration in lines leading to the tips of her fingers, and she cannot as much as squeeze her fingers. Her feet swell and sometimes its hard to take of her shoes, also they get very hot. After a while of continuously fisting her hands above her heart the swelling will go down. It has really started to worry me. This has been going on for about 3 years.
Your daughter might be having disorder of red blood cells as polycythemia vera or others which can pause with the redness of hands and feet with swelling, while discoloration of white lines near tips of fingers. Kindly get her consulting with expert pediatrician for basic lab test evaluation and complete hemogram rather than neglecting it.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
