What Causes Swelling And Redness In The Arm After Receiving An Injection?

My 76 year old mother had a pneumonia shot 4 days ago and her arm is red, hot and swollen in a band type pattern from the site of the injection. It is a wide band about 3 or 4 inches wide and wraps around the top of her arm. She says it is throbbing. Should she go to ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is an inflammation of a vein. And he needs to visit a primary physician. But don't massage or heat the part. You will get relief soon with medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
