What Causes Swelling And Redness In The Eye Of A Child?

Hi my 2yr old grandson , either got sand in his eye or his preschool teacher thinks maybe a bug bite . He was rubbing his eye when I picked him up at 510 p tonight. I got him to my home and rinsed his eye the best I could ( as I said he s 2 ) the bottom lid is still swollen and its red on the inside the eye behind bottom Lid. The eye is watering but otherwise it doesn t seem to be itchy or painful . What should I look for and can I put him to sleep , knowing he ll be ok.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Better to send him to visit an ophthalmologist. It can be a viral or bacterial infection. Rinse eyes often with camomile tea, use different towels for each eye. He may need to use antibiotic and corticosteroid drops.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
