What Causes Swelling And Redness On The Leg After A Surgery?

I had my stitches removed over two weeks ago in my lower right leg from a puncture wound caused by a piece of steel. The gash was right next to the bone. There is redness and a bulge right under the injury. It is soft when my leg is relaxed, but when I pull my toe back towards the knee, the bulge under the injury becomes very hard. There is no fluid or pus coming from the area but it is tender to the touch. Is this normal? I am a sixty one year old very active man.

Hi,

You have an indurated inflammatory mass attached to the underlying injured muscle since it gets taught on the contraction of leg muscles (Extensor digitorum muscles of toes). It would resolve with a course of suitable antibiotic and NSAID.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
