What Causes Swelling And Redness On The Lips?

I am a56 year old female with swollen, red lips that seep tiny droplets if moisture. They burn continuously. My dr sent out a prescription of a fever blister med. I took it two days ago and my lips continue to worsen. Vaseline is the only thing that helps at all. Do you have any advice?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Swelling and redness of lips that seeps moisture can be due to infection..
However if you are having fluid filled blisters then it can be most probably due to fever blisters or cold sores..

So for further confirmation you should consult a Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like blood test and culture of the seeping fluid can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case if it is due to viral infection then anti viral medication like Acyclovir, Valacyclovir oral intake as well as topical ointment can help..
To reduce swelling do cool compresses over the lips..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
