What Causes Swelling And Redness On The Site Of Band Aid?
In November of 2013 I got a tb skin test for a healthcare class and it was negstive. Last Tuesday I had to go get another one but this one was two step. I went back to the doctor yesterday and it was negative and they gave me another one but she put a bandaid of it because I tend to bleed. I knew she wasn t suppose to but I didn t say anything. Later on I took the bandaid off and its red and kinda swollen but I m scared to touch it to see if its hard. Could using a bandaid cause a false positive?
Hi. As per your case history you may be having a irritant contact dermatitisrash due to bandaid.
Bandaid can cause swelling and itching at the applied part and lead to false positive tuberculin test reading.
At present apply a antibiotic and steroid combination cream like fusiderm-b on affected part.
Repeat tuberculin test after 2 weeks and without applying bandaid for getting proper results.
