What Causes Swelling And Severe Itching On The Shoulders And Upper Legs?

I was at the ER today with facial swelling, severely itchy & burning red hives on my torso, shoulder, a bit on my upper legs...on my face the swelling was on upper lip, eyes, cheeks. They gave me IV epinephrin, liquid benedryl. I have a prescription for Vistoril, Medrol Pack. Now that I am home...the swelling is down on my lips...but is more severe on my eyes and has now moved to my forehead. All the women in my family have Thyroid/Hoshimoto...I am allergic a level 1, to eggs, milk & wheat...I had in the past few days started to incorporate a few of these back into my diet to see if I m still allergic. Is it normal for swelling to get worse and move? Should I be concerned. I m 54 female with recent diverticulitis..am on 2 antibiotics...for diverticulitis and sinus.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction. The fact that the swelling continue means that you are still exposed to the allergen. I suggest you to continue using Benadryl. If the symptoms continue you should go to the emergency room.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
