What Causes Swelling And Soreness In The Throat?

HI, My 17 yr old son has had trouble swallowing food for the last month or so. Thickness not sorenes in the throat. He has a decreased appetite and has lost 7 pounds over the last 3 months. He has what I think is an unusually large Adam s apple. I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer back in September and have since had it removed along with multiple lymph nodes, one with a large metastasis. Is it unreasonable to think that my son could also have an issue with his thyroid? I will add that I also have celiac but he has tested negative. His pediatrician thinks it is globes but blood work is in the works and he is scheduled for an ultrasound next week. Thanks in advance for any and all advice/opinion.Kind Regards Concerned Mom

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I don't think the symptoms of your son may be related to thyroid cancer but probably he has an issue with tonsils and adenoids. I think it would be advisable to visit an ENT doctor to check his throat.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
