What Causes Swelling And Soreness On The Tongue And Cheeks?

I switched from sertraline 100mg to duloxetine 60 mg approximately 4 weeks ago. My mouth/gums under tongue and inside my cheeks have been extremely swollen and sore/sensitive. I noticed a couple tiny white spots on my gums also. I went to urgent care today and was prescribed metronidazole for gingivitis along with a oral solution. My psychiatrist advised me to stop the duloxetine and start the sertraline again tonight but the urgent care Dr does not think it s related to my meds. I really have been feeling good and sleeping better so I am torn about going back to sertraline if this is not from the duloxetine. Thank you

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Well, yes it is true that inflammation in mouth along with sores can be due to Apthous Stomatitis while can also be due to Viral Infection..
However if the symptoms started appearing gradually after taking Duloxetime then it can be probably a side effect of the medication..
Considering the same your Physician has advised to stop taking Duloxetime..
So under proper guidance you can switch back to Sertraline..
If you still think it is not acceptable start doing warm saline gargles..
Take Vitamin B complex supplement after talking to your Doctor.
Gargle with 1:1 solution of milk of magnesia and benadryl..
Suck ice..

If no improvement then you should switch medication..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
