General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern about the swelling and tenderness at the top of vagina.
This could be due to infected 'Bartholin cyst'. It happens sometimes when the openings of these glands become obstructed, causing fluid to back up into the gland.
You can try 'Sitz bath'. It is soaking in a tub filled with a few inches of warm water several times a day for three or four days. This may help a small, infected cyst to rupture and drain on its own.
You can take antibiotic Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice a day for 5 days along with anti-inflammatory analgesic tablet like Ibuprofen + Paracetamol combination twice a day for 5 days.
Your symptoms should get better in about 3 - 5 days. All the best.
