What Causes Swelling And Tenderness In The Testicles?

My husband has enlarged, hard, and tender testicles, 71 years old with coronary heart disease. I am getting him to the doctor as soon as I can call this AM. Am fishing around for any info. that might help me to understand this until the doctor s office opens up. This has been progressing for at least 2-3 weeks and was hoping that my husband would take the initiative, but that isn t happening. Any thoughts that you can put out there for me to talk to the nurses/doctor with would be appreciated, Cathy

All these symptoms are suggestive of epididimitis which is inflammation of part of testicle and this not uncommon in males especially in this age. However, some more serious issues such as tumor or torsion should be ruled out. Epididimitis is usually treated with 10 days of antibiotics, usually ciprofloxacin and there are no permanent consequances. MAsturbation and intercourse should be avoided till pain persist, if possible since I may prolong inflammation course.

Some more serious conditions such as tumors or torsion are rare but in his ag Doppler ultrasound or scintigraphy should be done.
