General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Swelling and tingling in the hands can be caused by a variety of factors, including injury, inflammation, infection, and nerve-related conditions. It is possible that your friend's symptoms may have been due to temporary fluid retention, such as from sleeping in an unusual position, or may have been related to an allergic reaction to something that she came into contact with.
However, if her symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to seek medical attention to rule out more serious underlying conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, or arthritis. A doctor may recommend further tests or imaging studies to determine the cause of the symptoms and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
